I bought this jacket as a replacement for a similar Berghaus jacket which has given many years of great service. The High Trails jacket is good and comfortable but unfortunately has a major defect, the pockets are small and do not have rain-flaps over the top of them so A. you can't stick nearly as much as you need to in your pockets and B. water gets in when it is raining. This is poor design. In the older jacket you could fit a paperback book into a pocket; not any more! The fabric of the new jacket is significantly stiffer over the previous model so it feels less soft. Not sure if this will be a problem long-term.

I agree with the previous contributor that the external pockets do not have the storm flaps making them less waterproof. However this is not a big issue for me. The internal map pocket is, if anything, bigger that my previous Berghaus jacket (Alpine Extrem) and, being internal, is of course fully waterproof.This is a good quality jacket made from Gortex Performance Shell, stronger and more durable than the lighter Gortex found on cheaper jackets.

Excellent quality as you would expect with Berghaus. The coat is functional and looks great too. Pockets are well placed and spacious. Particularly like the fact that there is a chest pocket on both sides for easy access to phone and wallett. Only negative is a sometimes tricky zip which takes a few attempts to make work. Otherwise very pleased with the coat.
