All the UK reviews are very positive but go to Amazon.com and there are more critical in-depth reviews. My view - this is a slightly expensive bit of fun. Nicely packaged, the black pouch is smart with the Bear Grylls branding, and the various trinkets and gadgets make this a nice (£30) Xmas stocking filler. As a true survival kit, it is missing some vital components (compass, water purification), and the quality of some items (cheap waterproof matches, hair-thin snare wire, xmas cracker/ 'made in china' whistle) is unacceptable. And black is not the best colour for a kit you need to find in a hurry! The centrepiece is meant to be the Gerber clutch multitool (leatherman style folding pliers/penknife). Pliers are a handy survival tool but the knife and other tools are blunt/too small/ just poor compared to any Victorinox swiss army knife. The fire starter has had some positive comments (I haven't tried it so can't agree/disagree) and the inclusion of a survival blanket is good as often missed in small survival kits.I like the waterproof pouch concept but in honesty this seems to be a marketing gimmick looking for an identity. It's not fit for purpose as a general personal emergency kit (which probably should be based primarily around a first aid kit). The contents aren't relevant for a biker (even the multitool doesn't have anything relevant except pliers). It's too small to be of any real use as a car emergency kit ((where food, water, clothes, and mobile phone are more important). And as a survival kit (even just to go hiking) I'd seriously consider building my own from scratch, or buy a classic BCB survival tin (or GO pack pouch) at half the price and including all keys items like compass and water purification tablets - just add a survival blanket and put the balance towards a Swiss Army Knife.

Excellent bit of kit. I have carried one of these since they came out. Light and portable and with a lot of essentials. The price is not too bad either. There is also room to customise it to suit your own needs. Overall, it's a winner.

First off, I would like to mention that I am a huge Bear Grylls fan.I have purchased this pack as well as the fire-starter, folding sheath knife and ultimate utility tool. This kit looks very impressive at first, however upon opening the pack you will soon realize that all the items are very small and impractical. The snare wire is barely longer than the average hands length. The mini-utility tool has very stiff components and only consists of a nail file, a knife and two very small and ineffective screw drivers. The whistle inside the pack looks like something out of a pound store (the whistle on the outside attached to the bag is better). The LED light is purely plastic and inexpensive. It almost looks like a child's toy.The only two items that would be semi-difficult to find on your own would be the hand saw and mini fishing kit. The rest of the items could be purchased separately for a fraction of the cost of this pack. The fire-starter and folding sheath knife are good (different Bear Grylls endorsed products). Those are keepers. The utility tool's wire cutters exploded during there first use so you should be weary about purchasing that as well.Take some time and visit some local stores. Even ASDA sells the majority of items in this bag. Make your own kit.The only thing that Bear Grylls is attached to in this pack is the nylon bag that all the stuff is in. The rest is just cheap parts.Save your money and buy a Compass
