The Carter 4 comes from the Ultracamp
Presidential Range, incorporating the Weather Tech 3000 flysheet
which waterproofs the tent to 3000mm hydrostatic head (see bottom
of description for hydrostatic head explaination).
This
4 person tent is exceedingly quick to erect, having
only four fibreglass poles, all the same size - no
confusion over which pole goes where! And for anyone
who has ever struggled to peg the tent out with the correct
tension on the flysheet, there is a handy litlle feature at the
bottom of this tent which allows you to adjust the tension
correctly.
The
two separate bedrooms have sewn in groundsheets (keeping out
creepy crawlies) and the porch/living area has a loose
groundsheet - giving you the option to take the groundsheet
up if you prefer (anyone with a dog, or kids who forget to take
off wet footwear will agree that built in groundsheets in the
living area are not the most practical solution) . Another
nice touch is that the bedroom pods all have bug screen doors in
addition to the usual privacy doors, allowing the outer privacy
door to be tied back with the see though bug screen door giving
excellent ventilation to the bedroom pod and an excellent view of
sleeping toddlers napping during the day.

OK, the good stuff. First night in it and rain like I've rarely seen: absolutely torrential, and we stayed dry and warm. We even had to put it up in the torrential rain, and it went up well, with the whole thing well thought out in terms of ease of set up. Lots of good space. If there's a slight quibble about the design, it's that the front ground sheet isn't integral, which I think is a shame. And in terms of construction, I think a little more attention to quality might be good: one of the guy rope connectors tore almost immediately - bad stitching. Didn't bother us too much - a bit of duct tape soon sorted it out and we're not the sort to worry about appearances, but still... otherwise it would have been five stars.
